Can you have an unsecured couch in the back of a cargo van as actual seats?

I know its illegal not to have a seatbelt on if your under 16 in the back. Is it legal to have just a couch in the back that isnt bolted down or anything?

What it it WAS bolted down?

sure….go for it….but when someone gets hurt or killed in the van you will be held responsible for man slaughter.

so if a couch in a van is worth jail time of least 15-45 years….stick it in.

I think you would have to have it bolted down according to existing safety standards, with seat belts too.

I would imagine it depends on the laws in your area. In Maine, seat belts are required for all ages.

even if it was bolted down, if you had an accident and someone was injured. you’re liable.

If you have a couch in the back of your cargo van, which is not
bolted down, it’s not an offence provided no one is sitting on
it, as you can claim that you’re merely carrying it as an item for
    delivery.
However, if it’s bolted down and someone is sitting on it, then
it’s an offence, because you’re creating an illegal and extra
seat to the van without permission from the licensing and
    transport authorities.
